As wedding photographers, we get to know all the venues, both indoor and outdoor. Many clients often ask us for our opinion from the perspective of where you would get the best photo opportunities. Obviously a list such as this is subjective and is based on our opinions and observation only.
1) Hyde Park
The main fountain gives a wonderful backdrop for both daytime and night-time photography. The long tree-lined avenues are ideal for romantic shots. The fact that it's in the centre of the CBD and that it's so close to everything is an added bonus.
2) Macquarie Lighthouse
Located in Vaucluse, about 10km from the CBD, Macquarie lighthouse is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It is an ideal backdrop for traditional wedding photography. We generally incorporate shoots with a visit down the road to Neilsen Park, which is also in Vaucluse to get a balance of ocean and harbour views.
3) Manly Beach
Ideal photo shoot location for any north shore wedding. Manly offers the best of both worlds. Ocean views and harbour views only a couple of hundred meters apart. Distance from Sydney is about 20km by road, or you can take the ferry.
4) The Rocks
A truly magnificent location offering contrast between old and new. The sandstone buildings and the old world charm create a great nostalgic atmosphere. Observatory hill is just next door and views of the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and Luna Park in the north offer plenty of great opportunities.
5) The Opera House
Nothing says "Sydney" like the opera house. It can be trick to find an uncrowded spot, but we always manage. The unique "sails" a perennial favourite with both local and overseas couples.
6) Centennial Park
This icon is an old favourite and still one of the best outdoor wedding locations. The rangers are always helpful and friendly and trees and wildlife create a lovely natural atmosphere. The area next to the rose garden is very popular.
7) Royal Botanical Gardens
The best spot is Bennelong Lawn. Overlooking the Harbour and the Opera House, it is a very popular spot, so make sure you book well in advance. It is ideal for marquee weddings
8) Clark Park, Lavender Bay
Just a few minutes drive from the CBD over the bridge, Lavender Bay sits high on a hill overlooking Sydney Harbour.
It's best suited to outdoor weddings of no more than 50 people. There is generally on street parking available.
9) Balmoral Beach
About half an hour drive from the city centre, Balmoral is one of Sydney's prettiest beaches. It overlooks the harbour and Manly.
Rocky Point Island can be accessed by a small bridge and is very close to the main beach.
10) Blackburn Gardens, Double Bay
Few people know about this location, which makes it an ideal secluded wedding venue. The garden features manicured lawn and a water feature plus access to Seven Shillings Beach & Redleaf pool. It's only a 10 minute drive from the CBD. This venue is ideal for smaller weddings.
